And why are the volunteers Annice you might ask?! Why because Caboose C-68 is near completion! Members Joe Saullo and Anthony DeBellis spent the day doing all the finishing touch ups on the ends of the car. All the yellow paint got touched up and the back trims got some new paint. Now as you drive up to the museum you can see shinny black orange and yellow! Best of all there are no more drips. All the yellow is yellow, all the orange is orange and all the black is black. The next step and the final step will be taken next weekend when the lettering is started. This process will include dashing Dans and LONG ISLAND printed on the side. Almost a year later C-68 is look as she once did when she was delivered to the LIRR.
The Lionel layout has gotten a lot of work since it was moved in. at this point 2/3s of the layout are back on it’s leg with accessories added. Track has also started to be bought also it will soon be added back to run trains.
Garden Railroad President Fisher has completed rewiring and testing the Garden Railroad after we had some recent problems with it due to a lighting storm. The trains are not up and running for visitor’s to enjoy. The shack was also reorganized so all the windows can open, giving visitor’s a chance to see what is inside.
Our Sister Organization, Twin Forks NRHS W93 Snow Plow Update While the plow is not in the museum’s collection it is still in our yard and is a part of our visitor’s experience. People hear grinding and men working, and the plow is getting some TLC. Currently members of the chapter have taken off a lot of old paint, so new paint can be applied in one smooth layer. The Chapter plans to paint the plow black, the way it looked when delivered to the LIRR. The plow has also started metal work on the plow, with Bondo applied to spot rust. The main blades of the plow has also had all of it’s paint removed, preparing it for new black paint.
With all this work, volunteers are needed! We are moving full steam ahead from now until the weather is to cold for paint. We have a number of projects coming up sure to please all fans! Contact President Fisher at dfisher@rmli.us or Aide de Camp DeBellis at adebellis@rmli.us to find out about work sessions and what is going on!
