While our museums in Riverhead and Greenport may be closed until the spring time, you still have a chance to come and see the museum’s artifacts in a new exhibit starting this January through May 2011 at the Northport Public Library’s Museum Cove. This Exhibit gives the chance for the museum to help the public further understand the history and reasoning for the Long Island Rail Road and why it was so important for the development of Long Island in a different part of the island where our artifacts have never been displayed. The exhibit promotes the area of Northport and the surrounding towns through photos and artifacts placed throughout the Museum Cove. The exhibit includes a large selection of photos from the museum’s collection with a display case full of Long Island Rail Road artifacts that explain Communication, Parlor Cars and much more. Two men that have been seen in both our museums also tagged along for the Exhibit. There are also hats, flags and whistles available for your little engineer to put on and pretend they are members of the railroad, running a train or collecting tickets. Thanks goes to the Museum’s own Don Fisher and Anthony DeBellis for setting the exhibit up, along with Liz Englert and Janet Naideau of the Northport Library for setting up the photos and giving the museum the chance to do the exhibit.
The Museum is also hosting “All Aboard for Model Trains” in the Museum Cove on Saturday January 15 2011 from 9:00am-5:00pm and on Sunday January 16th 2011 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the Northport Public Library .
