LIRR Engine 399
Engine 399 is almost all back together, after having the rest of her handrails installed on the back on the locomotive. Necessary modifications were done to allow for the correct installation. Both the front and rear couplers are now restored and usable. The door is the only thing that has to be bolted on and everything has been reinstalled on the locomotive. A few more coats of paint and lettering and 399 is finished.

BEDT Engine 16
After years of neglect 16 is finally getting the work she needs. This weekend all the wood from her cab has been removed. This week our volunteer carpenters will begin taking measurements and drawing up plans to rebuild ALL the windows and doors in Engine 16 so that they are functioning and look as they once did when she was in service. Once plans are drawn up, material will be bought and work will be done in the wood shop, to be installed in the spring. The side steps to get into the locomotive have also been repaired. Missing wood has been replaced and the steps have been bent back in shape. Additional metal was also fabricated to connect the frame with a detached support beam. The steps are now safe to use. In the coming months 16 will be painted again and lifted onto her wheels. Stay tuned for more exciting progress
Historic Lionel Visitor’s Center
While the museum is closed maintenance continues with the LVC. The painting has been completed and the shelves plaques, and switch plates have been reinstalled. The room was painted the museum’s standard white with green trim. The room looks outstanding! Work continues on the layout itself as well. All of the locomotives have been inspected and tested for another season of work. Volunteers will also start to tackle the accessories this week, making sure they are ready for our April opening. Thanks goes to all the volunteers on our Tuesday crew that come in and work on the layout! This weekend more display cabinet’s will be installed in the room as well. Future plans call for installation of speakers wired to go in the four corners of the room. A flat screen TV will also be installed. On the layout and in a custom built snowplow there are cameras, that will be shown on the TV as trains move around the layout.
