Restoration Work In Full Swing

Now that it is getting a little cooler, we are back to work in Riverhead this weekend. This will be the first of many weeks where we are working on our Trains! Expect weekly updates until November!

Caboose C-68 Today C-68 got some new yellow paint. This weekend all her yellow trims and handrails received much needed paint! Next week we will finish painting everything that is black. In 2 weeks we will do all final touch ups, and C-68 will be re-lettered for the LIRR, with the huge LONG ISLAND and dashing Dan on her side. By the end of September C-68’s exterior paint job should be complete. Plans during the winter include painting her interior.

Our Sister Organization, Twin Forks NRHS W93 Snow Plow Update While the plow is not in the museum’s collection it is still in our yard and is a part of our visitor’s experience. People hear grinding and men working, and the plow is getting some TLC. Currently members of the chapter have taken off a lot of old paint, so new paint can be applied in one smooth layer. The Chapter plans to paint the plow black, the way it looked when delivered to the LIRR.

With all this work, volunteers are needed! We are moving full steam ahead from now until the weather is to cold for paint. We have a number of projects coming up sure to please all fans!
