LIRR 399 Warm Winter Weather Progress

Well folks after a 60 degree weather day here on Long Island, we had the opportunity to finish the first paint job on LIRR 25 ton Locomotive 399. She is now covered from wheels to smokestack in her 1960’s orange and black paint. She will receive two more coats of this paint later in the year. ( I would say spring but who knows how good the weather will be again next week) The remaining handrails on the engineer’s side have also been reinstalled. Next week the handrails for the rear coupler will be reinstalled as well.

Work also continues in the Lionel Visitor Center. The room is in the process of being repainted. After only being put in primer the room looks much better with white walls and green trim. The walls have been completed while the doors and moldings are a work in progress. In the meantime the light switches and outlet covers have been reinstalled. Our LVC crew has also been work over the winter sorting through our locomotives, old and new making sure we are ready for opening day 2012 in April.
