This past winter we received a donation of original Long Island Rail Road wicker seat cushions, original from the LIRR storage warehouse. These seats somehow managed to outlive time and are here today. They will be installed in our Greenport museum with out other seat exhibits.
First we wire brushed all the old paint and rust off the frame. the frame was rusted in the wrong position for the exhibit, so we heated and oiled the moving parts until they were free. It took four of us standing on the frame to break it, but once we overcame the years of disuse, the seat glides like it is brand new!!
After liberal greasing and lubrication, we gave the frame a coat of primer. She was also painted green and the frame will be ready for installation at Greenport on Wednesday. I’ll send along some photos of the completed project.
Thanks goes to Don, Anthony, John and Evan for help in the restoration effort.
