Geting Ready To Open In Riverhead

The Museum’s Riverhead Site will again be open to the public this coming Saturday April 14th 2011. Admission is the same as last year, $7.00 for adults and $4.00 for kids 4-12. The World’s Fair Train is available for rides, and the Historic Lionel Visitor’s Center Layout is open for viewing.

A record number of cars were at the museum for a day we were not even open. There was just as many across the street in the court’s parking lot!

In an official vest, President Fisher cuts the grass in preparation of the museum’s opening next week!

Riverhead Garden Railroad

Thanks goes to the Long Island Garden Railroad Society who came out to the museum this past weekend to perform yearly maintenance on the Freemen Garden Railroad. They spent the day going through the layout landscaping, testing track and putting out the buildings and accessories on the layout. Garden Railroad members were helped by a local cub scout group that got a tour of the museum a week early. The garden railroad will be open for viewing this Saturday at the museum!

Riverhead Flower Garden
Thanks also goes out to the Riverhead Garden Club, who’s members came out to work with RMLI member Bonnie Cornett in the gardens to prepare them for opening day. The members of the club have been working the last few weeks to clean up and plant new flowers. Many new herb’s have been planted as well. They also replaced the flowers in the pots in front of the visitor’s center. The garden is also in the process of being extended to the other side of the world’s fair railroad crossing in front of the fence that protects the World’s Fair train tracks. “New” railroad ties have been brought over to mark off the location of the garden as the current one does. This is a great improvement to the museum yard and is much appreciated!

The World’s Fair Train is ready!
The G-16 train set is ready for business after getting her annual oil change and inspection. Her coaches also got inspected and are ready for another year of whisking children back to the World’s Fair.
