The 2019 Educational Forum – Railroad Steam Locomotives on Long Island 1898 – 1955

A slideshow and discussion by Railroad Historian Edward M. Koehler, Jr. about railroad steam locomotives on Long Island.  From the 1890’s Long Island Rail Road through the Pennsylvania Railroad ownership period 1900 – 1964, the Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal line and other waterfront railroads serving Brooklyn and Queens.  Following Mr. Koehler’s talk there will be a brief panel discussion: “Bringing Steam Back to Long Island – The Return of H. K. Porter 0-4-0 Tank Engine the Roy Dunwell.”

1:00 PM at the Suffolk County Historical Society, 300 West Main Street, Riverhead, NY.  Ample parking is available in the Riverhead Town parking lot, Osborn and Court Streets – across from the entrance to the Historical Society.
