Cab Simulator Update

It may be snowy and cold on Long Island, but that sure does not stop the crews at the Railroad Museum of Long Island! Progress continues in the installation of the museum’s new GP38-2 Cab Simulator. Work has started inside the shell of the GP38-2 to install the computer system that will run the simulator. Many different components and parts of the system were organized for the installation and addition of new RMLI equipment. Work on Video Cameras inside the simulator also took place. Visitors to the museum will be able to control the “locomotive” from a computer screen in the Engineer’s window, along with a Microsoft Train Simulator Desk top control, that will be installed on a brand new control stand that will be built specially to fit the controls. The desktop controls will be ordered by the museum in a few days. The “locomotive” in the simulator will travel from Riverhead to Greenport on the Mainline of the Long Island Rail Road between out two museum sites. The Trainz route has been created by John D’angelo, of Southold. President Fisher has tested the route, and finds it to be very realistic and accurate to the actual Mainline. People will soon be able to come to the museum, and run a virtual train between the two museum sites while learning about the job of the Engineer, and how a train is operated. Thanks goes to Don Fisher, Steve Sucic and Anthony DeBellis bearing the weather and coming out to work.
