Tuscan Red, Orange Equipment and New Windows

Baggage Car 7723

Before we paint the entire car, we wanted to test out the first gallon of a specially mixed PRR Tuscan Red for which we used accurate PRR color cards to make. Needless to say it makes the car look amazing, matching the paint perfectly. 7 more gallons of paint have been ordered and will be applied this week. Two coats will be put on to give 7723 her original and accurate PRR colors for the first time since the 1940’s!

Engine 399

The cosmetic restoration of this little engine is drawing to a fast close. The 2ND coat of paint was applied to the locomotive, giving it’s orange a nice strong and vibrant color similar to RS-3 1556. 399 will get one third and final coat of orange paint this week, completing another restoration project before the museum opens to the public this coming Saturday.

Engine 16

Another project comes close to completion at RMLI Riverhead! Our volunteer carpenters are in the process of installing the newly built and painted doors for BEDT 16. The side windows will get one more coat of paint before installation. The windowa were designed for us to be able to open them, as they did originally. Next we will continue to paint 16, and get her back on her wheels.

Engine 1

This past weekend Engine one was scrubbed down to get her ready for opening day at the museum! She had a lot of dirt on her from many years of resting in the engine house. Plans call to fire her up later in the year.
